Workshop Planning Framework

A 5-step guide for designing transformational group experiences — built on Tuckman's arc and Dyson's journey model.

1
Step One · Dyson: Connect

Clarify Intentions

Before designing anything, get clear on who you're serving, why they'll show up, and what success looks like — for them and for you.

Who Are They?
🎯
Their Core Problem
What's the real pain point that brings them to this workshop?
🧠
Their Identity
Who are they? What role do they hold? How do they see themselves?
🌍
Their Context
What's happening in their world that shapes how they'll show up?
Friction & Objections
The Benefit of Showing Up
Heads, Hearts & Hands — The Outcome Promise
🧠
Heads
What will they know or think differently?
❤️
Hearts
How will they feel leaving the room?
🙌
Hands
What will they do or have done?

Step Two · The Container

Set the Parameters

Great facilitation happens inside a well-designed container. Get the logistics right so the magic can happen.

Step Three · Tuckman + Dyson Arc

Design the Journey

Map the transformational arc. Each phase mirrors a Tuckman stage and a Dyson function. Design activities and conversations that move people through it.

✦ The Transformation

Name the before and after. This is your north star for every activity you design.

⚠️

Always Consider Risk Level

Before selecting a tool, check whether the group is ready for it. Risk level reflects the emotional exposure and vulnerability required. Start low and build trust before moving higher.

LOW — Safe opener, low vulnerability MEDIUM — Some depth, moderate trust needed HIGH — Deep, vulnerable, high-trust groups only
Energy Management: Always have low-energy and high-energy options ready. Read the room — after lunch, after heavy content, or early morning may need an energiser. Tag below shows whether a tool lifts or settles energy.
